My third child was born on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at 3:37 p.m. His name is Patrick.
Although the labor was over 13 hours, it was the smoothest and shortest of all the labors my wife has endured. Both mom and Patrick are healthy, which is great news since our insurance doesn’t cover pregnancy or delivery.
Patrick weighed in at 8 lbs 11 oz, which is heavier than any of our previous children. In Colorado, it’s unusual for newborns to weigh more than eight pounds. The high altitude causes lower average birth weights compared to babies born at sea level.
Naturally, the first two nights at home have been challenging. But we’re taking it a day at a time and enjoying having a newborn again.
I think I’m still in shock that I’m the father of three kids. Even before Patrick arrived, I had moments where I would reflect and think, “Wow! I’m the father of a daughter who’s almost five. And my son is almost three!”
It’s crazy, I tell you.
Here’s a picture if you’d like to see one…

Congratulations Ryan!
Just read the news.
I still can’t believe I’m the father of ONE child — so I can’t imagine how you feel with THREE.
All the best. Hope you get some sleep soon.
